Sparkling wine-my perfect wine (a review of NV Brut)

My favourite wine style in the world is sparkling. Hands down, without a doubt. I love true Champagnes, Proseccos, just plain sparklings and everything in between. If it has bubbles, I’m in!

Recently I had a chance to visit Benjamin Bridge Vineyards here in Nova Scotia and got to taste through their entire line up of sparklings. The vineyard is beautiful and the staff is well versed in all things wine. My mum and I brought home a number of bottles, including a couple bottles of their amazing Pet Nat and this fantastic NV Brut.

This crisp, clean sparkling is made in the traditional method. What does that mean???

It means that the grapes are crushed, the juice is turned into wine and fully fermented. It’s then bottled, has yeast and sugar added to it and left to ferment a second time in the bottle. Once the secondary fermentation is finished and the wine has rested on the lees (sediment of the yeast), it is slowly rotated so the lees fall into the neck of the bottle, then it’s removed and the bottle is topped up with more wine.

Back to the NV Brut

Crisp and clean with a light yellow colour. Tiny bubbles make for a smooth, slightly creamy mouth feel. It’s delicate taste is slightly toasty, with some nice stone fruit too.

Don’t take my work for it though, go get a bottle yourself!!!
