Midnight Breakfast
This blog post is the sister to podcast 19 and to the blog post Brown Butter Rice treats.
Every once in a while a cocktail book comes along that makes me want to create all the recipes in it. This is super true for the book “Cookies and Cocktails”. I find myself wanting all of the cookies that are listed within it and of course all of the cocktails that go along with them.
Midnight Breakfast
This cocktail is featured in the book and was invented by bartender Laura Newman of the Queen’s Park in Birmingham Alabama. It’s a funky little drink and does take some prep work.
Recipe
1.5-2oz vodka
0.375oz vanilla simple syrup
4oz Fruity Pebbles cereal milk (I used Trix since Fruity Pebbles can’t be found here)
Cereal Milk
To make the cereal milk. In a bowl combine 1 cup of the cereal with 2 cups of milk (the original recipe called for whole milk, I used oat and it was fine), a pinch of salt and 1/8th of a cup of brown sugar. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, stirring so the sugar dissolves into the milk.
Cocktail
In a shaker, combine all of the ingredients. Add a handful or so of ice and shake vigourously. Strain into a rocks glass (or mini milk bottle if you have one). Garnish with more of the cereal.
